5 Tips To Care For Woollen Clothes

Winter is all about getting cozy in bright and vibrant colours of woollen wear. From caps to hoodies, from overcoats to shrugs and a whole lot more, you can get spoilt for choice when it comes to buying winter wear. Along with some pros, there are some cons too. Taking care of winter wear helps you retain them for longer and enjoy growing your wardrobe by adding new pieces to this collection every new season.

Here are the top 5 tips to ensure your winter wear looks fresh and happy each season

1. Unshrink Easily

Shrunk sweater? Not a worry! Use some lukewarm water and put fabric conditioner/softener or hair conditioner and soak the garment in it. The fibres will relax and you can then stretch the sweater back to its original size.

2. Remove Odours

Moderate odours in woollen fabrics can be removed by simply spreading them outdoors in mild sunlight for some time.

3. Use gentle detergent

Avoid using powder detergents which are usually harsh on fabrics. Use only mild liquid detergent specifically available for woollen fabrics. Use of mild detergents will help the fabric breathe and retain its colour and shape for long.

4. Read wash care instructions label

Always read the instructions attached on the inside of the garment to help you treat it the right way.

5. Always wash woollens before storing

Always clean/wash all your woollen wear before packing them away for the next season. If they are kept aside even mildly soiled, chances of mould and mildew forming over the year is high. After cleaning, gently fold/roll and preferably keep them in covered boxes or cases to avoid exposure to air.
